At Mortons House, we are committed to ensuring that all of our guests are given a warm welcome and their needs are catered for effectively. We make every effort to ensure we are aware of any guests who have any special needs or disabilities, in order to ensure that their stay at the hotel is as enjoyable as possible.

It is our aim that guests with special requirements do not feel that they are discriminated against in any way and they are welcomed in the same way in which we deal with all of our guests.


The hotel boasts 4 rooms of our 21 rooms, that are ‘accessible to all’, called The Dacombe Rooms. These rooms are located across the garden from the main hotel within the walled garden.

All the accessible rooms have the usual facilities expected of a quality three star hotel. All have shower only 'wet rooms' (no bath), low level light switches, low level clothes rail in the wardrobes, under floor heating, tea and coffee making facilities, quality courtesy products and 32” Wall mounted flat screen Televisions.

The rooms are designed for the able bodied as well as the physically challenged. They are located in a quiet corner of the hotel grounds.

Room 18 has a 5-foot double bed with space under for a hoist and has a support arm to the right-hand side of the toilet.

Room 19 has a 5-foot double bed with space under for a hoist and has a support arm to the left-hand side of the toilet.

Room 20 can be set up as Twin beds or a large 6-foot double bed. The beds cannot fit a hoist underneath. There is a support arm to the right-hand side of the toilet.

Room 21 can be set up as Twin beds or a large 6-foot double bed. The bed can fit a hoist underneath, and has a support arm to the left-hand side of the toilet.

Rooms 20 and 21 are interconnecting.

As all the equipment is removable the rooms are normally set up without WC support arms and shower chairs etc. The shower room pictured above has ALL the available equipment. Please state when booking what equipment you require and any special requests and/or needs you may have, as no two guests needs are the same.

Access Statement

On arrival
Please use the designated car parking spaces close to the Dacombe room bedrooms. There is an access ramp leading to the hotel reception to register your arrival. For wheelchair guests there is a specially lowered part of the reception desk for your comfort. . Staff will assist you with luggage to your room. If you arrive after the reception has closed (after 11pm), an emergency telephone is adjacent to the front door and this will automatically call staff.

Car parking / Drop off
There is designated free parking near the bedrooms. There is a ramp into the main hotel, which is situated around 70 yards from the main hotel. Passive Infra-red lighting illuminates the pathway to and from the hotel. There is also a drop-off point near the entrance to the hotel.

Hotel Lounges, Dining Room and Garden
All of our public areas, lounges and dining room are easily accessible. There is a good circulation around the hotel and a level entry wheelchair accessible WC is located close to the dining room. Please be aware that these are entered via a flagstone floor, which can be slippery, when wet.

All of our public lounges and dining areas are carpeted. The main dining room is level entry with table service offered at all meal times. Lighting is a combination of natural, electric and oil lamps. Lighting levels can be increased if required. All public areas have good contrast and are well lit. We cater for all dietary requirements and are happy to deviate from our menu if something special is required, but advance notice is advised. If our small private dining room (Castle room) is in use, then a temporary ramp is used. Please acquaint yourselves with all the facilities and fire exits.

Opposite the Dacombe rooms there is a walled garden with a ramp and an accessible patio table, if you would like room service or us to serve you a Dorset Cream Tea in the garden, please call reception between 10am-10pm.

There is a large hotel patio with ornamental pond, which can be accessed from the drop off point. This area has ample seating.

There is a bus stop right outside the hotel for trips to Swanage, Poole and Bournemouth (Wilts and Dorset http://morebus.co.uk/). The route to the bus stop is accessible. Wareham train station that links with London (Waterloo) is just 4 miles away. Timetables are at reception. The Steam train from Corfe Castle to Swanage is approximately 3 minutes from the hotel and is wheelchair accessible. Local accessible taxis can collect you with prior arrangement. Our postcode is BH20 5EE for Sat Nav purposes.

There are many accessible local places to visit including stately homes and gardens, beaches, Monkey World and Swanage Railway, to name a few. More detailed information can be found in the guest information folder, in the bedroom.

Visually impaired and hard of hearing guests
For visually impaired guests we can offer menus in larger print on request or can read these to you if you'd prefer. We have a ground floor plan to aid your movement around the hotel. We are happy to assist if you need any further help finding your way around. If you have a registered Guide / Assistance dog please advise us when making your booking.

We have a hearing loop at reception. If you have a hearing aid set it to T and let us know. The accessible bedrooms all have red strobe alarm lights to indicate a potential fire.

In all cases of an alarm staff will be aware if the accessible rooms have activated this and will inform you quickly of any evacuation plan. If the main hotel has triggered the alarm it is likely you will be asked to stay in your bedrooms.

A laundry and dry cleaning service is offered. A local company is used, therefore return times may vary.

The area around the Dacombe rooms has a good mobile phone signal but this should not be relied upon.

Conference and meeting room available, which is accessible via a small removable ramp. Accessible cloakroom nearby.

Unfortunately we do not accept dogs, but do consider our affiliation with Happy Hounds, a local dog boarding service - http://www.happy-hounds-dorset.co.uk/ however, we do accept assistance dogs with prior notice.

Check-in time is 3pm and check-out time is 11am. Where possible, we are always happy to oblige if you require an earlier check-in time and/or a later check-out time. Please see reception.

Free WiFi is available in all of the public lounges, dining room, meeting room and bar.

After your stay we would welcome any feedback about your experiences, having spent so significantly on the facilities ~ improving our service remains a priority.
